Growing Up as a Church

Let me first say something I don’t say enough – I love Christ Fellowship! It is a joy to be your pastor. I am humbled by the work God continues to do in our midst. Five years ago, this church did not exist. By God’s grace, we are now a growing, healthy, and diverse body of believers. And yet – while preparing for the past two sermons in Hebrews, I have been greatly convicted and challenged as a pastor. As […]

Where to Find Wisdom

Last year, I watched a Harlem Globetrotter hit two half-court shots in a row. It was amazing stuff and I imagine it took a lot of practice. Most of my half-court shots miss by a mile… Making important decisions by yourself is like taking a half-court shot with no practice. Making important decisions with prayer and counsel is more like a lay-up. There’s a much higher probability of success. Take the lay-up. Ask God for wisdom and get a lot […]

What Did the Early Church Do?

(Acts 2:42-47) This is what the early church did: They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching. Luke describes the first church as a group of people devoted to the Bible. And the fellowship. More than a social gathering, this word means they functioned like an extended family. They were committed to one another. And to the breaking of bread. This likely has a double meaning: The Lord’s Supper and a common meal. And the prayers. They prayed for one another […]

Men of Conviction

“The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy.” – Martin Luther King One of the things I love about Christ Fellowship is our men. Of course, I love our women and children too! But there is a sizable gender gap in the American Church. Women outnumber men on Sunday mornings by 20%-30%. That’s something we should lament, especially today. Today is […]

Not Fancy

Christ Fellowship is not a fancy church. We don’t meet in a fancy building. No one is expected to wear fancy clothes (but you can if you want). Our kids are rambunctious.  We don’t all show up on time. We are kind of a mess, but I love it. Our lack of fancy doesn’t make us better than other churches. We simply want to be more accessible. When we strip everything else away, we are left with a community that […]

Better Together

“For by the grace given to me I say to everyone among you not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think with sober judgment, each according to the measure of faith that God has assigned. For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” Romans 12:3-5 I’m a […]
