About Us

About Us

“There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all ONE IN CHRIST Jesus.” – Galatians 3:28

Christ Fellowship wants to be a church that is so committed to the unifying Gospel of Jesus that everyone in our community will know us by our love for one another – regardless of ethnicity, social status, age, or gender.

ONE in our love for the Gospel.

downDown – The gospel is the “good news” that God has reached down to us in his son, Jesus, to defeat sin and death and their effects in our world. Through his life, death, and resurrection, Jesus has done what we could never do to bring us back into right relationship with God. This gospel is the “power of God” (Rom. 1:16) to overcome the penalty of sin (past), the power of sin (present), and the presence of sin (future). We will never move beyond the gospel. It is the A to Z of the Christian life, not just the ABCs.

ONE in our love for Worship.

upUp – We were created to worship God. All humans are worshippers, but most worship created things instead of the Creator. God’s mission is to create worshippers that glorify Him with their minds and with their hearts – “in spirit and truth” (John 4:24). Therefore, we will strive for worship gatherings that engage both the mind and the heart in a healing, freeing, and unifying way.

ONE in our love for the Church.

inIn – The church is not a place or an event but a people. It’s not just a weekly gathering of individuals, but a people committed to loving one another and sharing life. Relationships are the context for gospel growth and mission. We will continually cast a vision for people sharing their lives and stories with others as “a people for [God’s] own possession” (1 Pet. 2:9).

ONE in our love for the City.

outOut – We were called by a God on a mission to redeem mankind. The church does not exist for itself. We are a sent people. Jesus said, “As the Father has sent me, I also send you.” (John 20:21) Jesus demonstrated ministry for his disciples by meeting people’s felt needs and uncovering their hidden idolatries and need for Him. We will join Jesus in this mission of making disciples in Horn Lake and beyond through intentional discipling relationships, community-engaged fellowship groups, and redemptive preaching and worship.

To some, the word “theology” is a bad word, a divisive word. To others, it represents a love for the things of God, but not a love of God himself. Theology is not meant to be useless head knowledge. As John Frame says, “Theology is the application of Scripture to life.” In other words, theology is grounded in Scripture and meaningful in today’s world. If it’s not being applied, then it’s not helpful. Many people dig the Scriptures looking for deeper knowledge, but unless the Holy Spirit is using that knowledge to convict and change us it will only lead to pride.

We also understand that theology has created division in the church, but standards of doctrine also unite and protect us from serious error. In order to be a member of Christ Fellowship, you will need to affirm the first and second areas below, though we are all growing in our understanding of them and lean on each other in the process. To hold leadership office in our church, you will also need to affirm most of what you will find in the third and fourth areas.

We are Christians which distinguishes us from other world religions and cults. Christ Fellowship affirms orthodox Christian doctrines. This means we adhere to some of the most ancient creeds of the faith including the Apostle’s Creed and the Nicene Creed.

We are Gospel-centered and in agreement with the doctrinal statement of the Gospel Coalition.

  • There is one God in three persons – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
  • God has spoken to us through Jesus and the Bible.
  • God created us and all things.
  • Humans sinned and created separation from the God who made us.
  • God has always had a plan to save His people.
  • We call that plan “the Gospel” or good news about Jesus.
  • His death and resurrection eternally secured forgiveness and holiness for all of God’s people.
  • Jesus became like us, for us – He made atonement for our sins and reconciled us to God through His righteousness.
  • Salvation is a work of God’s grace, applied to us by the work of the Holy Spirit and received through faith.
  • Believers are part of a new kingdom, a present spiritual reality with a promise of a future physical hope.
  • As a whole, God’s people are part of His church – a new community that God dwells with and uses to continue His witness to the world.
  • Baptism and the Lord’s Supper are the public signs of God’s covenant community.
  • Jesus will come again to end sin and death and restore all things!
